Nottingham maternity services could move under new relocation plans
Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust maternity units could be moved to one hospital under plans to relocate some services.
Maternity services at the trust are currently the subject of an independent review following a rating of inadequate by the Care Quality Commission. The review came after reports 19 babies were stillborn and 46 suffered brain damage between 2010 and 2020.
NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Clinical Commissioning Group has launched a public survey and a series of events for people to give their opinion on the plans for the three sites within the trust, City Hospital, QMC and Ropewalk House, saying this was a “once-in-a-generation opportunity” for people to help shape their health and care services.
In a report, the trust said there was currently some duplication of services across its two large hospital sites and its “ageing estate makes it difficult for us to deliver modern healthcare in the way we would like”.
They added “We believe that we could improve the care we provide and make better use of our staff and resources if our hospitals were reorganised. We are currently working hard to make improvements in our maternity services in response to concerns raised by regulators, and we know that there is still a lot more to do.”
