Sheffield CCG letter asks patients to think twice before making GP appointment
In an open letter, the NHS Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group said it was a “misperception” that GPs are seeing fewer patients and asked patients to understand the pressures GPs are currently facing.
The letter added that like many places, Sheffield is suffering an “unprecedented demand” on the NHS.
The CCG and GP surgeries have changed for the foreseeable future, and telephone and video consultations will remain in place due to South Yorkshire’s high Covid levels. In an effort to ease pressures, staff will be shared around South Yorkshire surgeries and funding will be invested in technology and more out-of-hours appointments.
The letter said “We want to reassure you that practices are doing all they can to get through to and see as many patients as possible.”
Before requesting a GP appointment, the letter suggests people should consider visiting a pharmacist, walk-in centre or calling NHS 111.
