Police expand timeline of Sussex hospital deaths probe
It has been confirmed that an investigation into deaths at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton has been expanded.
Sussex Police previously stated that they were looking into claims of medical negligence during the period of 2015-2020, but the timeframe has now been extended to include 2021.
The claims surround alleged failings in general surgery and neurosurgery.
Police said enquiries were currently at an early stage and that the investigation would not necessarily lead to criminal prosecution.
A statement from Sussex Police said “We are working closely with partner agencies and the hospital trust is cooperating fully with our review.”
Earlier this year, the Care Quality Commission downgraded the hospital to “requires improvement” after whistleblowers prompted an inspection.
